UK Defence Secretary John Healey revealed to MPs earlier this week that a Royal Navy submarine encountered a Russian spy ship in UK waters, which it warned of its activity.
According to foreign media, there are reports that the ship may have been monitoring underwater cables and infrastructure around Britain.
The Secretary of Defense has been asked whether destroying cables would be an act of war, with several examples of such incidents occurring around the world in recent years.
Healey says: "This is clearly part of the wider Russian aggression that we are seeing directed at the UK and other Western countries."
He highlights the fact that the United Kingdom and other countries began a joint exercise to increase surveillance across the Baltic and the English Channel to track spy ships, writes A2 CNN.
Healey was also asked if his job becomes easier when the world sees Donald Trump demanding more defense spending from the UK and other NATO members.
The Defence Secretary says "everyone agrees" that defence spending must increase and stresses that Labour has a commitment to increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP. (A2 Televizion)
