Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned European allies of possible future Russian attacks.
Referring to allegations that Russia is deliberately smuggling migrants into the EU through Belarus, Zelensky said at the Munich Security Conference: "What if next time it's not migrants - what if it's Russian soldiers or North Korean soldiers? "
"Belarus borders three NATO member states. How quickly will their allies react - and will they really react?" Zelensky said.
EU member states that are neighbors of Russia and its ally Belarus accuse them of deliberately sending migrants to the borders of Northern and Eastern Europe as part of "hybrid" attacks to force them to cross EU borders.
The Ukrainian president has now said he has intelligence reports that Moscow wants to move troops to Belarus this summer. Their deployment will be billed as military exercises - similar to how Russia's invasion of Ukraine was prepared three years ago. However, Zelensky did not provide any other evidence.
Against the backdrop of the change of power in the US, Zelensky said that the old relations between Europe and the US are "coming to an end". Given the uncertainty about future support from Washington, Europe must "unite and act in a way that no one can say no to Europe, command it or treat it as weak" ./ Deutsche Welle (A2 Televizion)
