Kosovo and Serbia can achieve mutual recognition between them in 2026. This fact was announced by the Vice President of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj, in an interview for KosovaPress. According to Hoxhaj, when PDK comes to power, there will be a new platform for dialogue with Serbia. According to him, PDK will draft the new platform in dialogue with a comprehensive structure of all political parties and civil society.
"With PDK taking power, we will take some concrete steps in the dialogue. The first step will be that after three months after PDK takes power, we will have a new platform in dialogue which includes a comprehensive structure of all political parties. This also includes civil society and this dialogue will follow a single goal and idea which is mutual recognition. We think that during 2026 a favorable situation can be created to reach an agreement for mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia. We don't see ourselves implementing anything without having mutual recognition on the table. We expect our partners to punish Serbia, as the West's policy of impunity has led to the attack in Banjska and Ibër-Lepenc. Even if an unreliable government in Kosovo convinces our partners that the source of evil is Serbia, not knowing how to behave internationally", said PDK vice president Enver Hoxhaj.
Hoxhaj said that the Basic Agreement of Brussels and the annexation of Ohrid, reached in 2023 between Kosovo and Serbia with the mediation of the European Union, has brought "colossal damage to the country, removing mutual recognition from the table".
"This Brussels agreement has offered a colossal diplomatic victory to Serbia and an equally colossal disservice to Kosovo by taking mutual recognition off the table. He made the final agreement as an interim, temporary agreement. In fact, the future of Kosovo is frozen in the Euro-Atlantic structures", emphasized Hoxhaj.
The former foreign minister criticizes the Kurti government, which according to him has failed in foreign policy. He says that Kosovo is isolated in relation to its allies.
"There is no international recognition and there is no membership in any possible international organization. It has been two years since we applied for EU membership candidate status. Failure in the Council of Europe and an internally divided and polarized society...Zero relations with the United States of America, with the EU under sanctions and isolated. We are in a situation that would be beyond any imagination", added Hoxhaj.
In addition, he also lists the failures that, according to him, have occurred under the Kurti government. According to Hoxhaj, Kurti has not been able to complete a single job, but has only managed the country. (A2 Televizion)
