When tragedy strikes, there are gestures that make a difference. Harry and Meghan are well aware of this and have chosen to open the doors of their magnificent villa in Montecito to those who have been forced to evacuate due to the fires in Los Angeles.
As fires continue to ravage thousands of acres of land in Southern California, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have rolled up their sleeves to offer concrete support to those who have lost everything.
In addition to providing a safe haven in their residence, the couple also worked with the Archeëell Foundation, their non-profit foundation, to identify the most effective ways to support the affected communities.
"If a friend, loved one or pet needs to evacuate and you can offer them a safe haven, do it," Harry and Meghan wrote on their website. They also appealed to anyone who can donate clothing, toys and essential supplies to organizations working on the ground, such as the American Red Cross.
Not only that, but they are partnering with world-renowned chef José Andrés and his World Central Kitchen organization to provide hot meals to those in need.
Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan's home is (for now) out of danger. Located about 150 km from Los Angeles, in Montecito, the villa was not reached by the flames.
However, if the winds change the situation, the couple, along with their children Archie and Lilibet, may be forced to evacuate. While the local electricity company has already warned that there may be preventive interruptions for security reasons.
The fires in Los Angeles, which began on January 7, have already destroyed more than 30,000 hectares of land, scorched entire neighborhoods and forced more than 100,000 people to flee their homes. While the number of damages and victims, unfortunately, continues to increase. The most popular areas include Pacific Palisades and Malibu, areas known for their dream mansions and breathtaking views.
Extreme weather conditions, with strong winds and high temperatures, fueled the flames, making the firefighter's work a titanic undertaking. Some fires, like the one that broke out in Pacific Palisades, have been attributed to arson. The police have already arrested a person suspected of arson, and at the moment the situation remains critical. (A2 Televizion)
