Rolls-Royce wins UK nuclear submarine contract

A nuclear submarine contract worth over £8 billion has been awarded to Rolls-Royce, hailed by the government as a victory for the UK economy and nuclear deterrence.

According to foreign media, the Ministry of Defense confirmed overnight that the UK company has won an eight-year contract to design, manufacture and provide support services for the nuclear reactors that power its submarine fleet.

The agreement will strengthen the Royal Navy's ongoing deterrence work at sea, which sees at least one nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarine patrolling the seas at all times, writes A2 CNN.

The Ministry of Defense added that the AUKUS defense pact, which also includes the United States and Australia, would also benefit from the plan.

Defence Secretary John Healey said the so-called Unity contract would save the country's coffers £400m over an eight-year term by combining multiple contracts into one. (A2 Televizion)
