New York City has gone 5 days (between Sunday last week and Thursday this week) without a shooting victim, for the first time in 30 years.
According to foreign media, the Police announced the news through an announcement on social media, 4 minutes after which, this positive balance was interrupted.
New York City averaged more than two shootings a day last year, but between Sunday and Thursday police recorded no incidents.
"This is the longest time we've gone without a shooting victim since the beginning of the CompStat era," the New York Police Department said in 'X,' referring to the police computer system created in 1994.
The force said this was due to the "courageous work that NYPD members do every day."
But just four minutes after the post was published, this positive balance was interrupted when a 34-year-old man was shot multiple times in Brooklyn, the New York Post reported.
According to police, the victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition, writes A2 CNN.
Police in New York City have increasingly focused on criminals using illegal weapons, which authorities say has led to a "significant drop" in the number of shooting incidents.
"Through precision policing, particularly regarding gun violence, lives are being saved every day in New York," Police Commissioner Jessica S Tisch said earlier this month. (A2 Televizion)
